I'm Julie Eastgate, an AASC Level 1 and Level 2 certified animal aromatherapy specialist offering animal aromatherapy consultations (1-2-1 across central Scotland or online if you’re further afield).
During a consult we decide on the best oils to use with your pet and I then guide you as to how to use them. Once you’ve got started, I offer continued support for as long as you need while we work on your pet’s health and wellbeing.

“The results have been amazing“
Hi, my name is Julie Eastgate. I’ve had animals for most of my life, mainly cats and dogs but also small furries (hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils). I currently live with a Pointer/Setter mix rescue pup from Greece called Zaira, a cheeky ginger cat called Flora, and Clovis a blind rescue dog from Romania. I have completed my AASC Level 1 and 2 certifications as an animal aromatherapy specialist and am currently training in animal acupressure techniques.
All my dogs have been rescues and over the years I have had to work through various issues, including reactivity and anxiety. I have gained considerable experience around dogs and qualified as a volunteer instructor with Bearsden Dog Training Club in 2015. I have also been canicrossing with my dogs for many years.
With a background in science, I was aware of the sensitivity that animals have to scents and was interested to see if they could help my pets. I was so impressed with the results that I and started animal aromatherapy specialist training in the summer of 2023. I have since gained both my level 1 and level 2 certification and am listed on the Essential Oil Vet Network . I often work alongside dogsandpups 1-2-1 dog training to help address specific issues such as noise phobia and anxiety.
“the effect…on our dog is astounding.“
My essential oil journey
In 2022 the health of my senior (14 year-old) Westie/Shi Tsu cross Misty began to deteriorate. She had always been a reassuring influence for my highly-strung German Wirehaired Pointer, LooEee, and as she got older and more frail I started to notice that he was becoming increasingly anxious.
In an attempt to help support them both (Misty physically and LooEee emotionally), I started using essential oils. Over the next few weeks I started to notice that LooEee was able to cope when I left the house (he had always struggled with separation anxiety), was relaxed on lead walks, was less excitable when visiting the vets, and family and friends were commenting on how much calmer he was. Sadly, we lost Misty to old age after a couple of months but I’m convinced that the oils were also key to helping LooEee (and me) cope without her.
I was so impressed with the benefits I saw that I decided I had to learn more, and started training with Dr Janet Roark the ‘Essential Oil Vet’ in summer 2023. The training involved learning lots of theory but also completing case studies, to gain practical experience with different animals and issues.
We also lost LooEee in summer 2023, which left a home that was far too quiet. So we took on Zaira and Flora – essential oils have helped in so many ways with them both (minor skin issues, support when recovering from injury/surgery, calming for vet visits…….). Then in 2025 the year-old Clovis was welcomed into our home – essential oils were key to creating a calm environment, which proved so important for settling in a rescue dog who is blind and so misses the visual clues that are key to understanding our surroundings. He also has a traumatic brain injury and oils have greatly supported his physical development, particularly in terms of improving his mobility.
I have learned so much and seen the amazing benefits essential oils can have for the animals that share our homes - during my animal aromatherapy training, while using essential oils with my own furry family, and from the different animals I have the privilege to work with. If you think essential oils may be able to help your pet, please get in touch.
Julie has been helping me with my very lively and excitable Cockapoo Sidney. We’ve been diffusing using essential oils for a few weeks and Sidney is definitely more focused. Julie is so supportive and helpful and I’ve no hesitation in recommending PetScentials.

Can’t believe how much the oils have helped our Patterdale terrier Bella. She had an allergy in June and was given steroids by the vet - as soon as those finished it flared up again. About a month ago Julie suggested a mix of essential oils to be used twice a day. Can’t believe the difference. Her paws are almost back to normal, no chewing at them or her legs. No excessive scratching. My husband was a sceptic but even he has had to admit the difference in her since we started using them. Thanks!!!

I was introduced to Julie by our dog trainer when our 2-year-old Border Collie showed severe problems with anxiety and separation. I was unfamiliar with the use of essential oils in dogs. Julie came to our home and helped us and the dog to choose the required oils. The results have been amazing – our dog still has some issues but these are now manageable and make her the character that she is. Julie keeps in touch to ensure we have no problems and is always at the end of the phone. I would recommend Julie - the effect essential oils had on our dog is astounding.

Our dog Bella is quite anxious and can find outdoors stressful, especially if there are loud noises. With Julie’s expert knowledge we were able to find oils that were suitable for Bella. The difference in Bella since using oils for the past few months is remarkable. She is not as anxious in stressful situations or when she hears loud noises. She is now enjoying herself outdoors again, and I do believe this is down to the aromatherapy oils.
